
ARTIST BIO
Dagmar Schürrer is an Austrian digital media artist, educator, and researcher based in Berlin, Germany. She holds a degree in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London, UK, and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Interface Cultures with a focus on artistic research at the University of the Arts Linz in Austria.
Her practice explores the intersections of science, emerging technologies, and human perception. Drawing on biology and neuroscience, she combines XR, artificial intelligence, digital world-building, and poetic approaches to consciousness and its environmental entanglements. Through intricate animations, immersive environments, and spatial multimedia installations, she creates contemplative experiences that reflect on the evolving relationships between technology, perception, and the more-than-human world.
Her work has been presented internationally at exhibitions and festivals including New Contemporaries at the ICA London, Louvre Auditorium in Paris, Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin, the Moscow Biennale for Young Art, Eunam Museum in South Korea, the Museum of Waste in Changsha, China, Fotografiska Berlin, Belvedere 21 in Vienna, and Tate Modern in London.
Her animations were screened at international festivals, amongst others at Supernova Denver, Diagonale Filmfestival Graz, ITF International Trickfilm Festival Stuttgart, Rencontres International Berlin/Paris, Vienna Shorts, Crossing Europe Linz, Tricky Women Vienna, Filmfest Dresden, Filmfestival Seattle.
She has also contributed to conferences including ISEA – International Symposium on Electronic Art in Brisbane and Seoul, the Expanded Ars Electronica Conference in Linz, the IVA – International Conference on Intelligent Virtual Agents in Berlin.
Schürrer is an artistic research assistant and workshop leader for XR development at the University of Applied Sciences Berlin in the EU funded project IUNO – Innovation Center for Intelligent and Immersive Technologies. She has been board member of the Berlin media art association from 2021–2025 and stays an active member.
